Overview
Start your Conversational AI Data journey.
Chatbots and assistants learn from conversations people wrote on purpose: prompts that sound like real users, and responses that model exactly how the assistant should behave.
Clients pay humans for text a model could generate in seconds because model-generated data collapses into a narrow, self-similar distribution and degrades the model trained on it. Real human variety is the product.
This course teaches prompt craft, meaning user turns that are genuinely varied rather than superficially reworded; writing the ideal response to a style guide, including the hardest case, a good refusal, shown side by side as one question answered in a rejected and an accepted version; the hard lines of safety, privacy and originality, with a breach-hunting exercise on a short, helpful-looking answer that violates five of them; and how conversation submissions are reviewed, including why submitting model output as your own work is detected as a matter of routine and is the fastest way out of the industry. Around 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, self-paced; the free Data Collection Basics first is recommended.
One of the eight courses of the Data Collection Foundations certification programme: pass all eight to become a Certified Data Collector. Available on its own or under the programme fee; certificate included on passing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this course.
Most learners finish in 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, self-paced. Each of the five units has reading and a practice quiz with instant feedback, and interactive exercises run throughout the course. The final knowledge assessment has an 80% pass mark. You can retake it as many times as you need, with 24 hours between attempts, and your highest score counts.
It's designed for beginners who write clearly. No AI knowledge and no coding background are required. It is especially worth taking if you already have expertise in another field, whether medicine, law, software, finance or teaching, because subject specialists are the best-paid contributors in this kind of work. Data Collection Basics is the recommended starting point, but this course doesn't assume it.
Writing, mostly. You author the user side of a conversation (realistic questions, awkward phrasing, the difficult cases a model will meet) and often the assistant side too, following a style guide that says how to answer, when to ask a clarifying question, and when to refuse. It is closer to careful, rule-following writing than to chatting with a chatbot.
Reading, interactive scenario exercises, and knowledge checks on the e-learning platform. It teaches the conventions of conversational AI data: what these projects buy, how realism and diversity shape a prompt set, what a response style guide governs, safety and originality rules, and how reviewers decide. There are no writing samples marked by DeeLab and nothing to submit.
The course rules them out, and this is the rule that ends the most contracts. The whole point of the work is human-written data, so submitting model output as your own defeats it, and detection is routine on every serious platform. The same goes for pasting copyrighted text and for including anyone's real personal details. The course covers what must never enter training data and why the checks exist.
The other Data Collection Foundations courses are the natural next step; each is available on its own, or the programme fee covers them all. Human Feedback Foundations is the closest companion: this course is about writing the responses, that one is about judging them, and many contributors do both. You can also record your completed courses, languages, domain expertise and availability in the freelance and gig work section of your trainee profile, which is what DeeLab looks at when a project needs contributors.
Yes. The certificate is included in the course fee and is issued automatically once you pass the final assessment and leave your course feedback, and in any case within a week of passing. Pass all eight Data Collection courses and the programme certificate, the Certified Data Collector award, follows automatically as well.
You have three months to complete the course, counted from the day you sign up. Within that window it is entirely self-paced and always open; your progress is saved automatically and you can return whenever suits you.
